Year 5/6

Students in Years 5/6 consolidate their knowledge and skills while preparing for the transition to secondary school. Learning focuses on critical and creative thinking, collaboration, leadership and personal responsibility. Through engaging learning experiences, digital technologies and specialist programs, students are challenged to become confident, capable and resilient learners who are ready for future success.  Stunts take part in weekly maths scaffolding lessons that are tailored to support their needs. Auslan lessons are conducted weekly in association with Auslan Education Services. Lessons are linked to the Victorian curriculum 2.0.

The 5/6 unit is made up of composite classes with students from year 5-6. There are opportunities for cross-age and peer tutoring, shared and team teaching.

The composition of the grades at our school are arranged:

  • So that children can be placed in grades which are appropriate to their academic and social development.
  • The range of abilities that are spread across a composite grade are very similar to those of a single age grade. Teachers provide a program to cater for the individual children’s needs no matter what grade they are in.
  • To provide greater flexibility in matching the needs of the child with their teacher and other groups.
  • To provide the flexibility in placing children from other educational settings into the most appropriate grade- this is important given the number of children transferring in and out of the school
